If you don't want the experience you describe, don't use matchmaking. We're a pretty self-critical group that's always looking to do better and improve, and I'm so happy that we were able to deliver an experience that people are excited about. Hard can still be difficult that way as well.

Yes, VoG is kinda straightforward for a raid. Watching the first group that were streaming crack the door on the final encounter. Those numbers are higher than I had expected, but still represent only a fraction of Destiny players. You'll fight The Templar here, carbon is but you must temper your aggression and act with the team in mind.
Some of us teleported, but others didn't. Gatekeeper is not solo able, thats it. The studio addressed both suggestions in their weekly update. Completing the raid on hard mode first will give you double drop rolls, as you'll get a chance for drops from normal mode at the same time.
